Locations close to London
Hello again,
following from my previous post, is there any location near London you would reccomend, that I could reach by train (I don't have a car)? I like walking a lot, so trudging along muddy roads and fields won't be an issue. Let's say I'm trying to avoid the issues I discussed in my post on London locations...
Ciao,
Val

You could try Kew Gardens http://www.kew.org/
They allow within reason any form of non Commercial photography I have certainly dragged the 10x8 around there a few times.
Entry isn't to cheap but if you like the place a season ticket rapidly pays for it's self.
There should still be some Autum colour about there are quite a few interesting buildings in the gardens and at this time of year you can catch a nice sunset by the river , shot below is from a Canon compact four years ago.

Hi Clive,
I completely forgot about Kew Gardens!... I've been there before with a tripod, though with a DSLR, and no one did bother me indeed. Did you have to ask permission to use your 8x10, or you just went there and took pictures?
Valerio
ps: nice shot, by the way.

Hi Valerio
I just turned up with it , they might tend to ask if you are a Commercial photograper which would require permissions but any kind of equipment is fine as an amuteur. You do need permits for tripod use in the glass houses and they might not allow that for LF use as the sheer size could cause problems for other visitors but it is not a problem anywhere else in the gardens.

Hi Clive,
I'm glad to know they don't fuss about tripod and a large format camera For the moment I won't attempt taking pictures inside the glass houses though.

Brookwood Cemetary near Woking - right outside the station and has two (disused) rail stations on the site. A permit may be required for photography
Nunhead Cemetery 5 - 10 min walk from station. (May be a dodgy area during darkness)
Kew gardens - as stated in above posts.
hope these help
maybe this could be added to and made a sticky?

Hi Numnutz,
thanks for your suggestions, I'll keep them in mind. I might skip Nunhead Cemetery though, I don't like the idea of being chased by yobs while running with my camera over the shoulder...

You don't have to run, simply swing the tripod by the feet, the head (without camera) should be fairly effectiveValerio Trigari wrote:I don't like the idea of being chased by yobs while running with my camera over the shoulder...

That's a good idea, though I hope I should not have to resort to it ever!Joanna Carter wrote:You don't have to run, simply swing the tripod by the feet, the head (without camera) should be fairly effective

Seriously though, the better answer is to advertise when you could be available in the Workshops forum and get a bunch of us together. Then you can take it in turns to "stand guard"

Re: Locations close to London
Yes, I've been thinking of doing that in a while, but I never had the time so far. I will try to organise something as soon as possible.
Another issue is that I'm still very concious of using large equipment and attracting attention from other people (especially when I'm covered in my bright red dark cloth...), especially when on my own.
