A friend of mine does alot of bird and wildlife photography and has asked me if I want to head to Lyme Regis for a day. The plan being that I would drive and drop him off so he can do his birding thing and I could head off to shoot some LF.
I've been to Lyme Regis and Chesil Beach years ago and I remember it being a beautiful area but cant really remember much apart from that!

Has anyone got any tips or suggestions for good places around this area?

Many thanks
Mike

Can't really remember that much as it was a day trip or two when we stayed in Weymouth years ago (well before LF) but there's the Cobb at Lyme Regis but it can get a tad breezy stood on top - all you want is someone dressed like the French Lieutenant's Woman (cheesy but a good shot in the film if you get a moody sky...)

All I remember of Chesil beach is miles of pebbles washed up into ridges. I guess it'll be either "minimalist" pictures or you'll have to look for smaller details - shiny wet pebbles, flotsam etc

Isn't there Portland on the end of Chesil beach? I remember going to an outdoor market there but you'll need to anchor down the tripod if the wind gets up and you're looking out over the bay... ;-)

I know the area well. Portland Bill has a lot of options - especially if you head right out to the lighthouse. Closer to Chesil Beach you have old boats, sheds, etc.

Apart from the aforementoned pebble shots along Chesil Beach, there's Fleet Lagoon on the landward side and, on a hill at the western end, St. Catherine's chapel.

So no shortage of interesting subjects!

the beaches at lyme itself can be really interesting depending on weather conditions, amount of people etc..more documentary than landscape but hey...much of my work is Documentary landscape so it works for me!

I have a couple of examples on my website which were shot on medium format but...

also there is a very good fish and chips shop at the end of the harbour near the clocktower..allways important!
