Maldon was a great weekend in exceptionally sunny weather with the perfect combination of water, sky, clouds (sometimes), interesting light especially towards the evening and very friendly company. I too wish to thank Joanna and Helen for organising a most enjoyable long weekend and to Paul W and Richard P for transporting me to The Hythe, Tollesbury (the location of a photogenic red lightship, lichen encrusted wooden posts, etc) and for a long hot Sunday at Pin Mill in Suffolk.

A BIG thank you to Joanna and Helen from me too...
I was unable to make Saturday but had a very good time on Sunday at Pin Mill.
Thank you so much for your time Joanna for explaining the Hinge Rule and Sch...flug too. I had my MPP out yesterday playing with it and now it seems so simple... Thanks again for the work arranging the weekend and it was great meeting everyone. Going to keep up the practice...

The Hinge Rule? That's a new one on me, I might have heard of the process, I'm not sure, but if I have I've not heard of it described as the "Hinge Rule" before. Do tell.
Oh, and since nobody else has asked yet, and somebody has to go first, I'll start with the most important post-workshop question. Where and when next?

Got Film?
Well, my film arrived back from Peak. I've been completely useless all week in anticipation of it arriving
Given I hadn't actually used the LF camera for 2 years prior to Maldon, I'm just pleased they actually came out! Seems like my old film has survived two plane trips and various temperature changes pretty well. Compositionally and artistically, not my finest hour
but I have some new trannies, and thanks to Helen's expert tutelage I have a couple of B&W negs which have bags of contrast, as opposed to my previous efforts which were as flat as the proverbial pancake. I still have a lot to learn though, but I'm suitably enthused to get out with the camera much more.
These are pretty much straight scans, dust spotted and cleaned, no saturation adjustments, resized and sharpened for web. The B&W ones had a very minor curve adjustment to tone them down a little.
150mm, f32, 1/4s, 0.6 NDG, RVP 50

150mm, f32, 1/8s, 0.6 NDG, Delta 100

150mm, f22, 1/8s, 0.6 NDG, RVP 50

150mm, f22, 1/15s, 0.6 NDG, No.8 Yellow, Delta 100

My first batch of photographs have been developed (having been anxiously biting his nails)........
I need to select which monochrome 4x5 negs to get scanned in for me, but below are my first ever colour work with the dreaded Velvia 50
These were taken on 6x9 cm trannies, so strictly speaking are medium format - but as they were taken on the Ebony 45SU I plead your indulgence. Even on medium format film, I'm stunned by the original trannies. Need to work on my exposure though!
All are from 26 April 09 taken at Pin Mill in Suffolk.

Workshop/Shed at Tollesbury

Had a bit of a disaster
someone who I will not mention put the colour developer in first before the first developer and it ruined six slides.
Never done that before
and I hope not to do it again.
But I guess we learn by our mistakes.
Still got some more black and white to come, they developed alright.
