Traffic Warning for the Victoria Baths Workshop

Post by masch » Fri Aug 25, 2006 8:48 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Dear All,

On Saturday, 26th of August Manchester is holding the Big Manchester Pride Parade 2006. A large section just south ofd the City Centre (Portland Street to Whitworth Street and Osford ROad to Piccadilly are closed off for traffic!!!

While we are unlikely to run into trouble with the parade, experience shows, that we may encounter long delays when approaching the city centre, since the diversions aren't really capable of handling the traffic. In the morning, it shouldn't be too bad, but be prepared, just in case.

Recommendation

- Do not attempt to cross the city centre. You will be stuck in traffic!

- Hathersage Road is about a mile and a bit south of the southern end of the parade.

- Approach the city from the south, via A34 or A56/A5103

- You can try going from the East via Mancunian Way (M602/A57) from the M60. No guarantees, but I guess you'll be OK in the morning.

- You can come in from the SW via A6 (Stockport Road) or from the west via the A57 from Denton Hyde.

In all cases, make sure you know where to turn off to reach the baths before ending in the city centre.

To be honest, it shouldn't be too problematic in the morning, as long as you don't end up in a queue... :)

Good luck and CU all tomorrow!

Marc,

I hadn't seen your post but must have just timed it OK as they were putting the barriers out by forklift when we turned left off Deansgate.

Luckily we didn't have to go back that way so it didn't matter about a finishing time. It was a quiet run back apart from somebody had tried to lay a motorbike under a car on a big junction covered in roadworks and the M60 was SPECS camera controlled 40mph for miles through other roadworks.
