Pete,

I'd be more than happy to share.
Let me know if that is OK with you and I let the Hotel know.

Marc

I have just returned from the Glencoe area where I've been on holiday for a week. Unfortunately I learned about the UKLFG a few weeks after planning and booking my holiday... oh well. C'est la vie. Anyway, I thought I might update you on some information which may, or may not be pertinent.

There are roadworks on the A82 skirting Loch Lomond, which can cause a bit of a delay. Also, the bridge on the Glencoe pass is being repaired, which is quite a cause for delay, both of these roadworks are traffic lights with single lane traffic, and walkers and cyclists must be escorted through. I would not count on these being finished before you're there, they look like large scale works, especially the Glencoe bridge one. If you're planning on passing these points daily, it could become tiresome very quickly... :?

The foliage is starting to go rusty, I suspect by the time you get there, it will be ideal for some nice rusty Scottish landscape shots, the colour of the hills/mountains is just divine in the right light. :D

Weather was so so, a couple of days of nice weather, and some which were nothing but rain, but hey, it's Scotland, gotta expect a bit of rain. I got out to take a few shots, but not that much, no sunrises to speak of ( I set the alarm for 5:30am every day, but not a decent sunrise to be had ) but there were a couple of nice sunsets, especially the last night on the beach at Elgol. :D Pack the B+W film, daylight shots may be the order of the day :?

I stayed in two places, firstly I stayed in Onich/North Ballachulish, just north of Ballachulish & Glencoe. Highly recommended location for a Scottish photography trip. You're in an ideal location for Glencoe and Rannoch Moor, Glen Etiv and Buachaille Etiv Mor etc, which are just 20-30 mins away. Also, heading south is Castle Stalker which is a great photo opportunity ( I have some details and GPS coords on that for later ) which is another 20-30 mins. You're also about 20 mins or so from Fort William which will have some decent restaurants and eateries for those damp days

Second place I stayed in was Inverinate, about 5 miles south of Eilean Donan Castle, which gives easy access to Skye and the surrounding area. I was using camp-sites, which were very good, the hotels in North Ballachulish seemed to have vacancies, I don't know how they rate price-wise though.

I don't have many shots, as I said, weather wasn't the greatest so probably half a dozen or so, the film ( about 26 sheets, lots of bracketting ) was posted off today, have to see what comes back. I'll do some quick cursory scans when it arrives and post here.

I did meet another LF photographer on the beach at Elgol, and we had a nice chat. Brian said he'd been waiting all week for decent light at Elgol, I pointed him in the direction of this website, he may appear before long. :)

Oh, and a tip I was unaware of ( having not been to Scotland since I was a lad ) and which I'm sure you seasoned Scots know well, avoid the M8 going through Glasgow like the plague. Gridlock all day, added at least another hour to my journey, indeed, on the way back, to get from Inverinate ( near Skye ) to the border with England took 7 hours!

I have just come back from Glencoe and Rannoch Moor, I was up there being shown around in advance of the workshop by a local who knows the area VERY well. What a place, we covered alot of ground and despite the weather shot alot of film.

The places I was shown were so varied that I can't imagine not being able to find something to shoot whatever the weather, it was really ropy looking the first day but would clear away long enough to get something.

Places like the Glencoe visitors centre have some nice woodland and a very nice stream running through there, just a short walk from the coffee shop for the sub commitees!!(can't say I rated the coffee though the cakes took up some of the slack). If like me your a waterfall shooter bring a couple of boxes of film, I thought my head was gonna come unscrewed.

I shall post some images once I have got them processed and scanned.
I also broke my duck re shooting with another LF'er, felt quite inadequate watching him work('')

I was going to attend the workshop in October, but was unable to get a room at the Kings Head Hotel that weekend. I'm now proposing a weekend in Whitby at the end of October so I'll have to attend a future workshop.

Hope you do ok with the weather, my last trip in September was a bit of a washout.
