Hi Paul, did the possibility of this outing ever get any further or has it run into problems?

Hi Steve. Many apologies for the lack of communication on my part. I have tried (in vain) to contact the house - but as I understand it is run by volunteers so this may explain that they are not available when I try? I will endeavour to keep trying as this seems a great opportunity. I will keep everyone updated - promise

An update on the proposed workshop
I have spoken with Ian BEER, the gentleman who organises the tours of the mansion and he is happy for us to visit as a group on Saturday 27 January between 10am and 3pm. He is happy to act as a guide, where necessary, for the day and he is also happy for us to have unsupervised access to most of the building. He will also allow us access to parts of the house that are not open to the public (bedrooms etc) :) as well as out onto the scaffolding areas surrounding the chapel (gargoyles etc).

There is a cost involved - £10 per person which I feel is a bargain. I need to have confirmation from anyone who intends coming along within the next few days please :!:

The mansion is set in grounds that are well off the beaten track and I suggest that anyone who is able to get to the mansion early would have a great opportunity to take some external shots of the mansion/grounds (weather permitting  )

If you are interested I would ask that you reply to this posting on the forum so that I can get an idea of numbers and I can then confirm our booking with the mansion.

Hope to see you there! Paul

Hi All,

I live near Woodchester and would have enjoyed the trip, unfortunately I'm away.

Forgot to mention  I need to let the people at the mansion know if we are visiting by the end of this week (Friday, Saturday at the latest) otherwise they cannot keep the provisional booking open. Thanks :D

Paul

27 Jan is OK for me. Please book me a place.

Are there any suggestions for another location in the vicinity for the following day as this would make more sense to make a weekend of it. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome

Thanks

Dave

A few ideas

Bath (Royal Crescent, Abbey, loads of Tea rooms)
Malmesbury Abbey (good tea room)
Gloucester Cathedral (cheap photo license if wet, good tea room in Cathedral)
Severn Bridges (no tea rooms at all)
Tetbury (old buildings, good tea rooms)

Count me in Paul, the 27th is free. I'll only be down for the day as I have something else arranged for the Sunday.

Hi (again) - I'm only available for the Saturday too  but if people (Dave P) are travelling long distance I will happily suggest some locations in easy distance too (thanks for the list Steve H!). The area is pretty central for the north Somerset coast and is only a short drive into sunny Wales

Hello Paul,
Do I understand that we will be free to run amok in the grounds until 10am? Should we arrive early enough to photograph the outside first and then leave ourselves 5 hours to do the inside?
Thanks,
Charles

Hi Charles. I will double-check with the mansion but I understand that the grounds are open earlier - watch this space

Sorry, I didn’t look further than the first page. Can you please count me in please Paul? If you could confirm, I’ll need to book some accommodation for the Friday night…and maybe Saturday if the weather looks ok.
