Transporter Bridge

Post by Charles Twist » Sat Apr 07, 2012 9:38 am Etc/GMT-1+01:00

I have arranged to take photographs of the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge on the Saturday 21st of April. They're happy for me to bring a few friends along, so if any LF'ers want to get close and personal with the Bridge, just drop me a line. We'll get access to the top level and if we smile kindly, the engine room might also be an option. The gondola is out of action at the moment, so it won't be possible to shoot with or from it in motion.

Because the structure is open to the weather, we might have to cancel at the last minute if heavy rain or wind is forecast.

Cheers,
Charles

Did you go Charles? I was in Durham last week visiting an old friend, went to South Gare on Friday and nearly went to the transporter bridge! Unfortunately I had to head back home on Saturday morning otherwise I would have dropped you a line.

Hello Paul,
Yes I did.
The weather was dry and cloudy till 12ish and then turned v. wet. I got half-a-dozen shots. I was fortunate that they were carrying out repairs on the rails, so that they had to have the gondola in the middle for several hours. I could take my time to compose:

And this one from the bridge of the bridge, while the gondola was docked. The lever is turned to make electrical contacts which determine the direction. Or it used to - things have moved on and now there is a row of buttons also in the cabin.

I am on good terms with the manager, so if you return and want to go, drop me line.
Durham would have been nice with the blossom. Did you get any pics?

All pics taken on Adox CHS25, 5x4 film - normal development. I'll get the colour pics processed over the coming days.
All the best,
Charles

Great images! wish I'd delayed my return trip now.

I went really to shoot the old Magnesium works at Hartlepool but arrived about a month too late as it's now all fenced off with three quarters of it now demolished!

As my trip was only a flying visit I only had room to pack my MF but I managed to see lots of potential up there though. As Arnie would say "I'll be back" with my LF

Joanna will tell you about the one at Rochefort in south-west France. It's pretty amazing. I took my Rolleiflex to photograph it, but that roll was ballsed up by a processing house (moral: always do your own if you can), and I only have these two digital images to show for the shoot.
