What do you want from a day visit group meeting or workshop?

As tiltle, really - I'm based in North Staffordshire, and following a question I posed, its been suggested that I might want to put forward a venue and date for LF users to make a casual meet.
What do you all want out of such a thing?? - is a day visit best based around local users?
Am I quite mad for asking?? (I suspect that organising these things might not be as straightforward as it seems...)
Day/time/style of venue/public access etc?

Sorry folks, but due to a database corruption, the original version of this thread is not retrieving all posts. I have split the thread and locked everything but Aynsley's original post.

Please continue the conversation in this new thread.

Many thanks for your understanding.

Aha! Hiding behind women's skirts eh? :?

It seems so! - however, the observations made before the thread problem by certain female LF-ers would tend to suggest its a very good plan...
I did note on the (now unavailable) post that there was a possibility for the Cotswolds, and your own suggestion for NT property at Biddulph Grange in Staffordshire.
Does anyone have an NT (or other) property or venue with previous positive attitudes towards LF-ers to post here for consideration?

Steve,

Thanks for looking into locations for a possible day workshop in the South Cotswolds. It is not an area I know too well, so most subjects would be new to me.

However if there are any old Industrial sites, with access, I would be very interested. Anyone else have any particular interests?

Barry

Yes, Biddulph Grange is fine, in principle at least. But for me, getting time off is the main problem.

I've been thinking of a half-day or day workshop in Liverpool, starting with a visit to E Chambré Hardman's house on Rodney St, but time has been too pressing for me to take it further. There is so much, so close!

Hi Barry,

I'll see what I can find; the South Cotswolds is not known for industrial sites but there are some great churches, villages and landscapes.

Anyone else got any preferences?

What I am thinking of doing is a 2 session day....

I'll provide a list of possible locations and a meeting place at lunchtime (pub) and we can meet up again in the evening (pub) to compare notes.

This seems a good way to make the most of the day. Comments?

It's a few years since I was in the area, but is there any potential around the Cotswold Water Park area? Any of the gravel extraction sites that haven't been severely tarted up?

Thanks Steve,

Old churches are fine too! Your idea of a two session (and pub) day sounds perfect.

:D

I am also interested. It depends on the precise dates agreed but if possible I will come.

OK all,

I'm working up a list of sites with details and will contact any that I think may need prior clearance. I'll then suggest a few dates and ask people to let me know which they prefer.

I'll find a pub or two and set these up these as meeting points with times.

Hi All,

Working on the list. Here are a few options. Trying to keep it within 20 mile radius so that we have a reasonable chance of meeting up for lunch and in the evening.

Severn bridge at Aust (can get right below the bridge)

Westonbirt Arboretum (will check on tripods, good tea shop)

Tetbury (fine church and churchyard, good views of the village from different angles, interesting architecture, great tea shops)

Malmesbury Abbey (home of the 'naked gardeners', good outside, good inside and photographer friendly last time I was there, good tea shops)

Minchinhampton Common (good views across the five valleys arounds Stroud, good roadside tea hut)

Uley Log Barrow picnic site (wide views across to Wales, possible ice cream van).

Castle Combe (prettiest village in England, good tea shops)

Bath (Royal Crescent etc., more tea shops that you can shake a tripod at)

Painswick park (big views across Gloucester, no tea rooms)

Still looking for industrial sites. Avoiding NT like the plague.

:?: Lynne - I don't know anything about the Cotswold Water Park - what can you tell us? :?:

:?: I suggest a weekday if we can do it (to avoid people) - opinions? :?:

If anyone wants to stay over, let me know and I'll see if I can find some B&Bs or Hotels.

Can help with directions/parking for all the above later.

Toi be continued....

If a weekday would suggest a Monday or Friday rather than in the middle. I am still interested but hope you can avoid the second and third weeks in October.
