OK folks, as a result of our successful foray into the French side of the Channel (we now have two pictures from each of five members hanging in a gallery in Lannion for the month of December), there is a possibility of an Anglo-French workshop in the autumn of next year.

I know we also have to decide on a spring workshop but, due to the logistics of such an international endeavour, I really need to see if and how many folks would be prepared to put up with the hardships and privations of a visit to France (good food, slightly better weather, etc.)

For those of you who are not very good on geography, Lannion is to be found around about

Sorry but there are some characters in the link that prevent it showing correctly.

Subject of course to the dates selected I could be interested in a foreign workshop. I presume that we would be looking at a week for the workshop as it is probably a little far for a weekend especially for us from up north

Will there be a "learn yourself French" thread on the site in the run up to the workshop :?

Yes, I would anticipate that most people would prefer longer than just a weekend. This is one of the reasons for starting the ball rolling so early. We will need to look at booking accommodation and ferries and, of course, giving folks enough time to decide whether need to choose between a holiday with the family or with their camera.

Wee, may beean sure mon amee  Although, hopefully, you will be in the company of some of our friends in the local camera club who make a better attempt at speaking English than most British people do at French.

Thanks Joanna

Is there any indication of when the "International" will be? Or looking at the response so far will it be taking place at all?

We have just returned to work and people are already booking summer holidays etc. Need to get some of my days booked.

Hello from France
Dear friends across the Channel
I assume that Joanna means autumn 2008.
Just to remind you that there will be a French LF conference organised by the galerie-photo volunteers in Bourges, France this autum.
Conference dates : Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Sunday , October 12 2008.
To the best of my knowledge, October is in autumn but there is no obligation to combine a visit to Brittany or any other place with a visit to Bourges which is not that close to Lannion.
However the Bourges conference will be a good opportunity to meet a large group of French LF aficionados.
Bourges is located exactly in the centre of France so it is equally close and equally far from all places in France. Travel time by car from Lannion, Brittany to Bourges is about 6 hours / 550 km. Approx same distance and travel time than from Dover to Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

An aswer to John Rhodes & friends interested to joins the French LF conference in October

I have trouble using the private message system so I am posting this originally intended to John Rhodes but actually of onterest to all.

I am really happy if some British photographers can come and make the event international !
I can confirm the dates for the Bourges Large Format meeting.

Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October 2008.

So far the detailed program is not completed.
There will be an annoucement on the French LF forum.
The last news were posted here

There will be a booking procedure but is is very light, simply mail the organiser, Henri Gaud, that you intend to come.

This is a friendly conference, not a costly professional seminar ; in the past the registration fees were modest, in Fontfoide in 2006 the fee was 20 euros only and we'll arrange payment procedures for foreign attendees.
In 2007 In Switzerland the conference was hosted at a local conference center and the fee was higher, 50 euros paid in cash upon registration, but this is still modest when compared to what you hav to pay at some US LF conferences.
As of 2008 the event is sponsored by the local government, Département du Cher so I' am not expecting expensive fees. The local governement has sponsored a photographic work about Noirlac abbey published by Henri Gaud. So far this special customer seems to be very happy with the project.
Probably the conference will be hosted at the municipal convention centre or something equivalent, not in a Marriott or other Hilton-like conference centres ;-)
