French Workshop Details

Post by Joanna Carter » Fri Aug 15, 2008 12:21 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Finally, I have gotten around to deciding how to arrange the get-together in France, that I suggested in an earlier thread.

We will be based at Lannion in the Côtes d'Armor(22) region http://maps.google.fr/maps?f=q&hl=fr&ge ... =UTF8&z=12 and will be starting our get-together immediately following the French Galerie Photo conference in Bourges. The conference takes place from Friday to Sunday, 10-12th October, and we anticipate organising outings from Monday 13th through to Sunday 19th October.

I have also announced this on the French Galerie Photo groups as it our intention to make this an international affair where our two groups can find out just what makes the other tick :)

If you would like to also attend the Bourges conference (there will be other Anglophones there 8) ), Emmanuel Bigler has already posted some information and would be our best point of first contact for more details.

The aims of the workshop are :

1. to pursue day trips to sites in the Côte d'Armor, Finistère and, possibly, Morbihan regions.

2. to share some good food and good drinking with some new friends.

3. to discuss the possibility of gathering enough pictures from amongst those made during the week, to form an exhibition.

We have already sought out several beautiful locations that we would like to show you. If you are aware of anything else in the vicinity, we would be very glad to hear from you.

Because it's a long way to go, we are suggesting that people may like to take a week rather than just a weekend. Nonetheless, if the cost doesn't put you off and you can only manage a couple of days, you will be most welcome.

I would strongly recommend looking at the Gîtes de France website for accomodation. they do both chambres d'hotes (B&B) and Gîtes (holiday cottages). Usually these offer very good value for money.

Finally, it is our ambition de "turn the tables" next year and to invite our French friends to join us in England.

In addition to the Lake District get-together, can I just remind folks of this opportunity for some great food and drink, oh and some great photography as well

Please consider whether you can make it over to France next month. Brittany Ferries do some cheap short break rates and, if you can make it, even for a couple of days, you will meet with a great bunch of French photographers, some of whom have already had a profound influence on my views on photography.

If you can't make it this year, could you let me know what the level of interest would be for next year?

I have to agree, the photo opportunities there are absolutely outstanding. Have a look on the Brittany section of my website for some examples from last December (!!!).

Unfortunately, I will be in Barcelona for work during the French workshop, so I will not be able to make it, this time.
