Autumn 2008 - Workshop/Gathering proposal

Hello to all, hope everyone is well. I'm thinking of arranging the Autumn workshop for this year - time is creeping along at a fair old speed so need to be quick

Proposed venue - The Lake District - (Keswick)
Proposed dates - Thursday 30th October to Sunday 2nd November 2008.

Can I gauge interest from those who would SERIOUSLY consider coming along. I emphasise the word "serious" as I will try and arrange one location for accomodation/conference facilities.

Please let me know ASAP as I will need to get things rolling if it is to go ahead. It would help if you could let me know how many days you plan on coming along for too!!

If anyone who is planning on attending would like to "do a turn", demonstrate a technique/equipment during the evening sessions then please feel free to let me know and we can arrange an informal programme of evening entertainment!

Same rules as previous workshops:

No charge - everyone simply pays for their own accommodation and food.
Newbies and experienced all welcome.
Emphasis on exchanging ideas and basically having a pleasant few days in excellent company talking LF.
Attendees are welcome for all or part of the workshop.

I will approach our sponsors and try and come up with some demo gear/freebies etc! But in the current economic climate don't hold your breath for too long

So check your diaries/bank balances/better half and email me as soon as you can ... remember ... serious enquiries only please

Regards Paul

Hi- I would like to join you guys for all the days. Do we also bring work for critique sessions? Look forward to meeting you. Will be back from Bourges by then so may be able to report on that experience if interested. John

Only if they pass my prior approval at Bourges   8)

But seriously, it is always great to see other folks work. Please feel free to bring something along.

Hello Paul,
Yes I'll tag along - it'll remind me of the good ol' days when men were men and lenses were lenses. I'll probably book my own accommodation unless you can find cheaper than a YHA. I am not sure what I'll be doing during the day - depends a bit on the missus - but the weather will be predictably wet so if I can help with indoor activities, give me a shout.
Thanks for organising this one.
All the best,
Charles

Charles, I'm delighted that you are interested in coming, but I feel the need to write in defence of Lake District weather. Our first Workshop demonstrated what the weather can do there—I'm sure that you remember the rain at 5.30 am on our first morning, at the Keswick landing stages! After an hour of relentless precipitation one of our number, who is distinguished for his alternative printing expertise, lifted our spirits by declaring that the clouds over Causey Pike were beginning to get interesting…

To lift your spirits now, the weather in the autumn half-term week in the Lakes can be truly wonderful. For example, such was the week of 25 Oct—1 Nov 1997, when the sun shined without a break, and photography was limited by the haze on the horizon and the absence of cloud.

We can only hope!

Hello George,
Nice to hear from you! The predictability comes from it being a UKLFPG meeting, not from any geographical location  . Although the Lake District does have the wettest place in England, as I recall.
Will you be able to come along?
All the best,
Charles

Maybe this time, the Lakes will reverse the pattern of poor weather for the UKLFPG meetings!

I'm hoping to come, though as I wrote to Paul O, we are already booked to stay in Keswick for the whole of the preceding week. And I'll have some LF equipment with me then, no doubt!

Paul,

Can you confirm that if possible, you will be finding accommodation for Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun nights? I may book an extra day or two in the area, in another hotel, and don't want to accidentally double-book. It's that Sunday night I'm not sure you'll be arranging, hence my request for clarification.

David.

Hi David. I will try and book accommodation for Thurs night through to Saturday night as usually most people return home on Sunday. However, I am finding it difficult to find a hotel that can accommodate so if I don't have any luck in the next day or two I will post a suggestion that people look for their own accommodation in and around Keswick. I know I have suggested this before and the die-soft troops of UKLFPG have turned their nose up at it, but what about a YHA, maybe with rent-a-hostel or the such like? I don't know if attitudes have changed towards this option.
All the best,
Charles
