Maldon Workshop April 24th - 26th

Post by Joanna Carter » Sat Mar 21, 2009 7:54 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

OK folks

Could those of you who are attending the workshop please post a PM to me so that I can start to get things arranged.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I am now a dealer for Lee Filters, offering a 15% discount on their products. Lee have told me that there is a four week lead time on filters ordered so, if you want filters to be brought to the workshop, you need to let me know ASAP; other accessories should be available from stock.

I will defer coming to a meeting until the Autumn or next Spring, as my camera still hasn't arrived yet! Apparently Ebony sent it but it appears that Robert White sold it to someone else! :'( I have been promised it should arrive in mid-April. Fingers crossed.

I won't hold my breath though.

What! And their reason for selling it was ?

If you'd still like to come along, I'm sure someone will let you stroke theirs

Can't some kind UKLF soul let you borrow one for the weekend?

Robert White didn't tell me! I found out from Ebony's representative - Ebony referred me to him. They told me that RW had received my camera over 2 weeks ago and that it should have been posted to Teamwork.... but apparently not. They apparently sold it to someone else. I'm particularly bothered as I want to conversant in its use before I visit Spitsbergen (on a cruise) in early July.

The trials and tribulations of large format photography!

I am also about to have my home underpinned.... again.... 6 weeks work beginning mid April.

That stinks. Have you spoken to anyone at RW to confirm this? Have you spoken with Teamwork? If it is the case then RW have gone down BIG TIME in my (humble) estimation.

I'm sure it is due to some misunderstanding along the line.

I have been buying goods from RW for over a year now and I personally consider them to be outstanding. Although I was disappointed (I'm being diplomatic here  ) when I was told this, I am of the opinion that there was a breakdown in communications between their staff which possibly led to it being wrongly sold.

I will continue using RW despite this hitch because their customer service, aside from this blip, has been exceptional. I will also continue to recommend them to photographer friends because of their broad excellence.

Anyway some good news today! :) :) :) ...

Teamwork rang this morning - the camera is due to arrive either Friday or Monday! :P [O why isn't there an emoticon for jumping up and down with glee?]

If it arrives - ALL WILL BE FORGIVEN

It should arrive just before my birthday :)

For the record I hold RW in the same high esteem that I hold my favourite source of coffee, spirits and good wines (Fortnums). You can't get any better than that!

Well, I figure it's about time I showed my face at one of these Workshops, so count me in, hotel booked, I'll be there. Looking forward to it.

I hope you'll all be gentle with me and not wave those beautiful Ebony machines in front of me too much, I'm a long suffering Ebony Envier and with the cure being recently priced even more beyond my reach, I could do without a relapse

Me & my trusty little Tachihara look forward to meeting you all.

I will ask at work on Monday if I can have the leave.

Could you give me more details? I take it I would need to arrive Thursday and return home Monday? Is it accessible by train? Where are we meeting?

PS: you ought to know that I have mobility problems

Not necessarily, we usually "officially" start on Friday evening and finish soetime during Sunday Afternoon/evening, depending on folks travelling times.

But some folks will tend to arrive early and others will stay later.
Thingy wrote:Is it accessible by train?
Well, not directly by train but there is a bus service. See the http://www.transportdirect.info for more info.
Thingy wrote:Where are we meeting?
Not exactly sure yet but possibly the pub on the dock where the sailing barges tie up.

Are you ambulant or in a wheelchair?

Hi Joanna

I am ambulant but can be a bit slow.... it depends on my knees and the muscle spasms in my back. I have a Blue Badge for when travelling in my sister's car (as I cannot drive).

I collected the camera (missing a concert of Nicola LeFanu's beautiful classical music) and have been playing with it all evening. I can't believe how easy it is to use! I have installed the Maxwell screen but have not been able to sucessfully photograph it. I will try again in daylight & post the image to the thread on GGs.

Steve

Here is the camera on my bedroom windowsill.....

Well, at least you should be at home with the average speed of LF photography

I'm sure we can find a car to tow you with.
