Victoria Baths - Detail

Post by masch » Sun Sep 17, 2006 9:57 am Etc/GMT-1+01:00

OK, I'll stick my neck out... ;)

Here is my first shot from the Victoria Baths meeting.
Acros100, scanned, channel mixer and slight tweak to the levels.
Cropped to approximate square.

Comments?

Hi Marc,

I like the different textures and you've done well to capture a nice range of tones, particularly in the shadows.

Sadly, it doesn't really float my boat. The thing is, IMHO, the composition doesn't really work. I'm not really sure that the square format really works. I'm curious as to why you felt it was necessary to crop it like that. Was this something that you decided to do when you took the shot?

I find the light tone of the left hand wall distracting. I think if you had been able to get closer, perhaps concentrating on part of the wheel, then a stronger shot may emerge. Having said this, I have no idea what lens you used and whether your camera has enough lens extension to accomodate a closer shot...

I hope I haven't been too critical and you feel that my comments are constructive.
Keep 'em coming!

All the best,
