Romanesco Broccoli

This shot is part of the same batch of negs that Helen has just posted. We saw this vegetable in the shop and thought it would make an interesting subject. I placed the broccoli in a bowl on the kitchen worktop, illuminated only by the light under the wall cupboard. After much bending of the camera, I placed the hinge point about 8ft directly above the subject, with the plane of focus descending vertically, in the hope of getting all of the head of the broccoli in the wedge of focus. Well, I didn't quite manage it, but I still think the result is acceptable :)

Nice shot. We ate one just like that last night. With a little bit of cheese sauce it made a lovely accompaniment to some red mullet fillets :P

You ate a work of art :?:

We ate this one afterwards; I will have to try the cheese sauce trick next time, it wasn't up to much on its own :?

Yup! It was lovely. The trick with them is not to overcook them - just 'al dente' is bang on.

Yep, romanesco is a delicious veg. Apparently, it's a cross-breed of cauliflower and broccoli. And a perfect example of fractals in action... almost as if it was designed by a mathematician. :D
