I for one like it. The faster exposure (thanks to small f-stop) freezes the wave motion. The colour is good. I am particularly intrigued by your exposure. Had I shot it, I would have used a ND grad and made the sea appear brighter. I realise now that that would have been a bad move. Did you deliberately under-expose? Or was it a combination of accident and experience?

Thanks for your thoughts on this picture. I try to avoid the use of ND grads, mainly since I'm so inept with them. In this case, I metered for the clouds and sky, and let everything else fall naturally, since the dynamic range of the scene was less than 4 stops. Lucky accident, more or less.

What is annoying for me about this photograph was that I was trying to capture the moment when the dawn sun just breaks the horizon; when it happened, I pressed the shutter release, and there was no click -- I'd forgotten to cock the shutter! Doing so cost me 10 seconds, and the picture I really wanted. BTW, I could swear that at the moment the sun came up, it was green, not gold -- and I fluffed the chance to find out. Went back the following day to try again, but there were clouds blocking the dawn. I'll get it one day though! In the meantime, I still like this one, but it reminds me of "the one that got away".

Hi Dave ,The green light you are after , you can obtain also at sunset ,Again it has to be a clear horizon , so keep trying. Regards Tom

I have been lucky enough to see the 'green flash'. Fantastic, but instantaneous - doubt you'd manage to get it on film!
