First Exposures

Post by Chris Jameson » Thu Jan 24, 2008 1:15 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

The first 2 on my own camera, and only the 5th and 6th shots I've ever taken on a 5x4.

Embleton Bay, Sunday just gone around 8.30am.
I think both shots were 2 sec @ f22 on Provia 100F.

They're not works of art, but for the first shots on an unfamiliar camera I'm quite pleased.
The sky on the first shot is burnt out in the middle, but I didn't use any filters as I'm still piecing together my kit and have yet to get filters sorted.
The foreground in the lower left of the second shot is out of focus which is probably due to my inexperience.
That and the fact that I'm still waiting for my loupe to arrive.

Lessons learnt from this first forray:
- Chase up the people I ordered the loupe from!
- Get a proper dark cloth sorted out, trying to hold my jacket in place, fiddle with the focus and the movements is more than a little tricky!

Your comments either positive or negative will be very much appreciated.
But please be gentle, it's my first time.

Chris, the site won't let you link to your images so we can't see them :(

There's a sticky thread in general about sites that will let you host pictures on them and link to here - have you a login to any of those?

All the best,

Strange, I have no problem viewing the pics.
My brother has a Flickr site so I've asked him to put the pics there and see if that works.

Sorry about the false start, normal running shall be resumes presently....

I just copied and pasted the link into a new window to view them.

Both are fine images but would benefit from something in the foreground perhaps?

For a first attempt they are very good, a bit blue I thought. The second one appeals to me more with the water line converging with the cloud to the building in the distant. Maybe I'll summon up the confidence to show mine at some point.
Best wishes,
John
