WTB: 35mm slide scanner
WTB: 35mm slide scanner
I have a large number of 35mm slides I would like to scan and wondered if anyone has a decent scanner they would be willing to part with. I would prefer the ability to do MF as well, but this is not essential.
Many thanks.

I would reccomend an epson V700/V750 they are the same scanner only one comes with better software, this scanner scans 35mm, 120, 5x4,10"x8" and of course prints up to A4, they do pop up on ebay from time to time.

Re: WTB: 35mm slide scanner
Thanks Daniel. I should probably have made myself clearer as I do have an Epson scanner, but with a large number of 35mm slides to scan I think it will be a mammoth task to load/unload them into the flatbed holder for scanning. So I am looking out for a more dedicated 35mm scanner which might (hopefully) be a little less time consuming, and perhaps give me better quality for the effort..... but maybe that is unrealistic!
Many thanks,
Jenny

Probably overkill for the task you had in mind Jenny, but would be good for MF and 5x4..... I will be selling my Imacon Flextight Precision II/III as soon as I get around to gathering the info, price research and taking some pictures.

Re: WTB: 35mm slide scanner
Jenny how many slides are you looking at scanning? If its a large number I'd be tempted to pay someone else to do it, for the sake of sanity if nothing else.
I know reflecta make a scanner specifically designed to scan in bulk and loads from a standard projector carousel. They cost a grand though.

Re: WTB: 35mm slide scanner
I know my sanity will be challenged with this task, so the ease of scanning is important, and it would be helpful if the output is a decent quality and won't need too much (any!) work in photoshop afterwards. It would be nice to think I could buy a scanner, get the job done, and then pass on the scanner, but I know it will take time (that all-elusive commodity)! An Imacon had not crossed my mind... Something along the lines of a nikon 5000 ED or 9000 ED would be nice but the used prices are a little eye-watering! A Minolta Dimage 5400 scanner looks attractive, but I can't find much info about the used market for one of these. Any other ideas?
Many thanks,
Jenny

Re: WTB: 35mm slide scanner
Jenny, for what this is worth -I had a Nikon 8000ed which I bought from Ffordes six years ago. It was great for 35mm mono and transparency film in strip form. Stunning quality scans- but slow! The mounted slide carrier, from memory, took five slides at a time. it was not the most efficient way to scan large numbers of slides. Another point to keep in mind is, that as far as I can establish Nikon no longer support the 8000 and 9000 for current versions of MS Windows operating systems!
When I moved to LF I sold the Nikon (for more that it cost when I bought it!) and bought an Epson V700. For most purposes there is no significant difference between the Nikon and Epson in slide scan quality but the Epson is so much faster. I have a backlog of slides from many years ago. It is not too onerous to scan 200 in a relaxed day. UK based commercial scanning services work out at about £0.30 per slide - it might be a matter of balancing time, cost and quality to decide the best solution.
