Hi Alan
Welcome to the club
5x7 film holders are
scarce at the moment - there are 13x18cms holders available no and again on Ebay (both US and German sites) and although these wil fit a 5x7 camera they need 13x18cms film.

These have just been listed on Ebay UK:
Item no: 120461978123
The "problem" is that the seller has a Buy Now price for 7 film holders of ... £750.00!!!!!!!!!!

Paul,
Thanks for the tip-off. I confess that I am mystified by the price. Are they lined with gold?

On closer inspection it would appear that the benefit of thse holders is hat they are universal - they appear to accept both 5x7 AND 13x18cms film - I presume the tape is tohold the slightly smaler 5x7 sheet in place? Still, a lot of money to pay - especially when the "lucky" winner will have to pay to get them re-taped!
Have you thought of 13x18cms film? Holders will fit a 5x7 camera and they are readily available on Ebay Germany at realistic prices. Film is also available here in the UK as well as from EU? Just a thought!

You weirdo 5x7 people might want to keep an eye on here:

He I seem to remember had some 5x7 holders on recently for pretty cheap money but appear to have sold. Theres one 13x18 on there now though.

Thanks for the link Dave ... and as for weirdos I think you've been talking to my wife
I bought a few 5x7 film holders from Peter Walnes recently and discussing with him it would appear that he does not differ from the majority of equipment dealers in that they all seem to get 5x7 stuff in now and again and its simply checking/being in the right place at the right time??
The most reliable source is probably
Mike Walker. He lists them on his website but tends not to keep them in stock but can get them quickly from the US. I ordered some from him a few weeks ago and they cost about £55.00 each for a single holder.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone. I will keep looking.
In the meantime I'm not stuck. My "new" camera is a Kodak Specialist half plate, which came complete wit some nice Kodak half plate holders. After discovering that half plate film was available, but it was Fuji Acros - my least favourite film - I bought some Adox CHS 100 in 5 x 7 size, and cut some down to fit. I can always carry on doing this until some 5 x 7 holders come up, or I find Half plate film in something other than Fuji Acros

I'm curious, why do you not like Acros? I have found it to give astounding results; and with next to no reciprocity problems.

Joanna,
It is too smooth for my taste. I don't like Delta for the same reason.

A couple of things which might help. First is that there are a couple of holders on eBay just now, but still a full week to go.

Second is that halfplate film is available at the link below if you want to try it out. It is more of a traditional type film and it certainly ain't Acros! There was a short hiccup in deliveries earlier this year, but I haven't heard any complaints since.

Peter,
Many thanks for the information. I had spotted the holders on ebay.
Regarding the sheetfilm link, I seem to remember they got some bad publicity on the Apug forum. I wonder if anyone has dealt with them recently.

Someone on the LFP forum called Mike1234 claims to have "tons of spare 5x7 holders". You could try pm-ing him on there.

Patrick,
Thanks for the tip off. I have just registered with the LFP forum, but it will be a month before I can access the relevant information. Lets hope mike1234 still has a few hundredweights of 5 x 7 holders left by then!
