WTB: Lee 105mm Polariser and/or mounting ring

I've just about persuaded myself that I need (well, want) a big Lee polariser, so am currently on the lookout for one at a non-overdraft-busting price. Linear will do. I'm not stuck on brand either, Lee, heliopan, B&w are all OK.

Assuming I can find one I'll also need one of those rings to mount it on. Cheap and ugly is fine, I'm not bothered about cosmetics.

Thanks.

Robert White now has B+W 105mm Kasemann Linear Polariser here http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/product.as ... &PT_ID=713 (with a bashed box) for an affordable for Kasemann price.

Yeah thanks for the heads up - I'd seen that last week and it is a resort option if I can't find anytihng more affordable second hand.

One problem is I'm not 100% that I'll entirely get along with the mounted-up-front polarisers method of the LEE system, so I don't want to burn too much cash finding out. If I buy new and have to sell later if I don't gel with it (no pun intended) I'll lose a lot more cash than if i'd bought second hand.

Another bump - I have a ring now, still on the lookout for a polariser.

What's wrong with the 100mm square polariser from Lee? It's cheaper than the round one and doesn't need the extra ring mount. Any way, mounting the polariser nearest the lens is recommended to "straighten out" any distortions that might have occurred through the other filters.

Thats a good point and I have considered that option Joanna, the main issue being that i'll need to use grads too, and by the time you've added the cost of another lee holder it doesn't look much cheaper. Plus i will be using a 90mm lens with a 6x17 back, so the required tandem adaptor doesn't offer a very wide hole for the lens to look through.

Dave, when it comes to having to use both grads and polarising with a W/A lens, I have finally resorted to using the Cokin Z-Pro (130mm) holder for the grads, with a custom adapter to allow the Z-Pro mount to swivel on the front of a two-slot Lee holder to hold the polariser.

But, don't forget that you can get horrendous darkening at the edges/corners, due to the wide angles the light passes through the filters.

That sounds good, although i dont like the thought of stepping up to bigger grads.

My other idea was to use a smaller pol directly on the lens, then stick the lee system on top of that, but then its a lot of messing around screwing and unscrewing filters and adaptors everytime you need the pol, plus it necessitates having a pol for each lens, or yet more messing around with step rings.

Yes, but if you want to take W/A shots, with grads, then you may not end up with much choice; you should try doing the same thing with a Schneider 72mm Super Angulon XL

Lee provide a W/A adapter up to a certain size and this places the filter much closer to the lens than the standard adapters.

I managed to get myself Slim Heliopan 105mm so my Lee is for sale now - Linear Lee 105mm. Practically new - only black paint rubbed off on the outside of the filter in one tiny spot, otherwise perfect. Comes in soft Lee pouch.

£115 + postage. Let me know if you are interested. Photo below:

Thanks for the offer Alex. I've been pretty close to pulling the trigger one of the bobby white bashed B+Ws of late, and though your Lee is tempting once i'm paying well over a ton I may as well go the extra 20 quid and get a kasemann I recon. I think the B+Ws are a bit thinner than the Lees which is also swaying me.

I just wish I'd picked up a heliopan a couple of years ago when they were about £120.

Robert White B+W one does not include VAT in that price - with VAT and delivery it will be a bit above 140. The lowest I can go is £110 + postage. Anyway, I'm not going to flog it immediately - not in a rush, so let me know if you change your mind.
