I'm just about to put my 4990 on ebay.
Have you got the V750 now?. I have the Epson FMA for the V750, but haven't used it yet. I was going to order some Lumina fluid from ScanScience, as I heard that other fluids 'eat' the plastic on the Epson!. It appears that the ScanScience FMA is superior to the Epson, as there is only 1mm of glass to scan through as opposed to 2mm. Also, the ScanScience unit is height adjustable too. Looking at the shipping costs, and the overall price of the whole kit, compared to buying just the fluid, my thoughts are leaning towards buying the whole kit. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the matter. Stu.

I don't have a V750 yet, no. How long did your FMA take to arrive from Epson after registering for it?

I was going to order some Lumina fluid from ScanScience, as I heard that other fluids 'eat' the plastic on the Epson!.

I don't believe there's a huge difference in them tbh, the Lumina guy claims his are more pure than say, Kami fluid, but they're both organic solvents afaik. The FMA from Epson I believe is designed for these fluids, so I wouldn't expect it to be adversely affected, and no such effects were reported in the Photo-i review. The rest of the scanner... well that's a different story, don't get any on that..

That wouldn't be a benefit on the V700/750, it would make the scans worse. The Transparency CCD on the V700/750 is focused at a certain distance ( 3mm above the glass by default apparently ), reducing the height of the film by 1mm like that will throw it out of the field of focus.

Also, the ScanScience unit is height adjustable too.

It would have to be to compensate for the above. I understood the V700/750 holders were all adjustable too.

It's been a while since I looked at the ScanScience kit, it wasn't up to much when I did and the parts to make your own are easily available. I will be sticking with my Kami fluid, and the homegrown kit I already made. I shall most likely use the Epson FMA if I get a V750, haven't quite decided yet if I shall get one.

I have a scanscience kit and am quite happy with it. The kit comes with spacers allowing the height to be adjusted, he makes specific v700-750 kits so I am sure this is accounted for.
I feel it is well made and thought out FWIW.
I have not used Kami or others but I believe they leave a residue? The Lumina evaporates when left to dry in around 30 mins, leaving the film dry and clean(assuming it was previously:-) ) I bought some PEC Pads as the cleaning tissues that comes with the kit is not up to much, other than that I am more than happy.
One thing to be aware of is that the fluid has to come surface mail as its a HazChem risk, allow for 4-6 weeks for it to arrive.

The Kami doesn't leave any residue as far as I could tell, all the pro scanning studios swear by it, so it's good enough for me. I think it's probably oil that leaves a residue. As for the Kami film cleaning fluid, I wasn't so impressed, maybe it's the scanner wipes I was using, ought to try some PEC pads.
