WTB: standard lens 150/180mm around £150

Anything to sell (WTS) or looking for anything specific (WTB)? Anything advertised on this forum comes with the usual "buyer beware" advice; it is up to the purchaser to assure themselves of the integrity of the supplier and item being sold. It is also the responsibility of the seller to ensure that payment is forthcoming before parting with said item.

WTB: standard lens 150/180mm around £150

Post by Chaim Frankel » Sun Jun 19, 2011 11:38 am Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Hi everyone!

I'm starting out in LF photography, have bought a Sinar F2 and am looking for a starter lens, either 150mm or 180mm.

Should be modern(ish) i.e. preferably multicoated, in good condition with glass unmarked.

Fitted to a regular Sinar-type board a definite advantage (no DB please)

Thanks!

Chaim

May be a little bit more than you wanted to pay but I still have this great little lens available for £225 + £15 Special Delivery:

Hi Julian,

It's a little out of my price range at the moment (broke student!) so I'm going to wait to see if I get offered any cheaper lenses.

Cheers!

Chaim

It is unlikely (unless you are very lucky) that you will get an unblemished, modern, multicoated lens mounted in a fully working shutter for £100. For that money you should be able to get an older, uncoated/single coated lens. I suggest you try Ffordes, which are the cheapest company I've bought photographic equipment from.

Ffordes: http://www.ffordes.com/category/Large_F ... mic/Lenses

They currently have a 135mm Xenar for sale for £95.

For £149 they have a 150mm/f5.6 Sinaron mounted in a lens board, but the front element of the lens is marked. You need to ring Fforces to discuss the condition. If the problem is only cosmetic, then the lens should be fine.

Best wishes

On the peterwalnes site there is a 1970s vintage 150mm symmar for under £100. I doubt you'll go far wrong with a lens like that, lack of multicoating probably makes no odds if you keep it adequately shaded.

I've just noticed they have 3 possibly suitable lenses:

Thanks for that guys. I have seen quite a few 150mm Symmar-S’s go on ebay for around £150 and 180mm Nikkor W’s for around that price too, but often they are from abroad. Wondering if anyone here has similar lenses to sell?

Hi , I have 150mm F5.6 Schneider Symmar in a Synchro Compur shutter for £135. It is in good condition (for its age) ,no marks accurate shutter speeds. It is a lens I have owned for a long time and is perfectly good and sharp and I would have no hesitation on using it on any type of shoot. Peter Richmond West London.

Chaim,

Just to be contrary - I've acquired all my LF lenses from eBay or second hand shops and none for more than sixty quid. All 'vintage', all uncoated, but with working shutters (bar the speed being slow on the longer exposures - the clockwork is all quite old, of course!) - and all suited for B/W work.
