Looking to buy some working film holders for my Sanderson. These film holders have two grooves at the long sides (see below image). One is marked Graflex, but instead of the single groove found on most Graflex holders, it has a double groove.

I currently have three holders. The two completely wooden slides are unmarked but not usable, but the one with metal slides is marked with

Holmer Graflex Corp USA
US Pat 1641480 2056144
4x5 Graphic Film

Any help with locating some functioning ones very much appreciated!

Marc, is the wooden part marked Folmer Graflex or the slide itself.

The wooden holder is marked, not the dark slide itself. Below some images showing the markings as well as the detail of the metal clamp on the back of the camera.

The very much older Sanderson "book-form" wooden plate holders have the same pair of grooves each side although the holder's very much thicker and so they are further apart.

The Folmer Graflex Corp, name means that one is post 1928 when the company became independent of Eastman Kodak, however their products were still sold by Kodak Ltd in the UK. I've a 1940 Kodak Professional Catalogue somewhere which may have these listed.

The markings indicate it's for a 4x5 Graphic and Folmer Graflex introdused the pre-Anniversary Speed Graphic in 1928, but these take modern Iternational standard film holders with no grooves.

So the question must then be whether this one was modified to fit the Sanderson, it looks like the ridge used to hold a modern style film holder in place has been removed, there's a tell tale area, just in to the left of where the film would be, running the whole width of the holder. The holder should be 11.9cm wide.

If it's a modified holder that gives you more possibilities because you may be able to get some plain wooden holders modified and they'll be very much easier to find.

Very informative Ian. It could well be that the Graflex marked holder is modified to fit. However, the grooves are 'perfect' and the holder is 13mm think, not the 11.9mm you infer. The wooden holders are only 1mm thicker at 14mm.

My typo sorry, the holder should be 11.9cm wide. Thickness doesnt really matter. There'd be less work modifying aplain wooden holder.

The single groove Graflex RB holders are wider, and the groove#s more central so they'd actually need more modificvation.
