Hi, I am looking to purchase this fine LF camera if anyone is looking to sell one. Must be in very good working condition. I am also looking to buy wide angle lenses and accessories. Thank you.

Hi John

Welcome to the madhouse

Secondhand Ebonies can be as rare as hen's teeth :!:

Having followed your thread in the US forums, I was wondering if you have thought of getting a different make of camera that could be considerably less expensive, or have you fallen in love with the idea of a camera that you can caress :?:

I'll second what Joanna says regarding hen's teeth!

Ebony cameras do become available secondhand - MXV and FFORDES have both listed examples for sale in the past few months - no 45SU's though!

Ebony cameras hold their value very well and the problem I think you might face is that owners of the 45SU now have a camera with a new price of £4000 and a waiting list/time of about three months and that if they did sell the asking price is likely to be HIGH!

Despite the fact that the 45SU is the best camera ever made

I think that it is a hefty investment and there are cheaper alternatives (just not as good!). The RW45 and the SV series are nice cameras?

There are so many options out there and while most are beautiful cameras, all with there own good and bad points, the ebony 45SU does offer that little bit more.

Joanna, I did consider the Titan SF and Chamonix both very good cameras, but again the Ebony is in a different class. It's a camera that will be with me for the rest of my life, a good investment providing excellent practicality and results used properly.

Now, if only a used one would become available :D If not am just as happy buying new.

I see, so you've fallen for the strokability of the Ebony

Seriously though, your post prompts me to ask a question about the utility of the asymmetric movements on the SU. I will post a separate message in the General Discussion section and would be interested to hear your point of view amongst others. See you there.

You mean it's the best set of features and compromises for what you want out if it

Personally, I think it's OK for what it is but I'd rather have my P2 for setting up - it just has downsides in portability...

Shock / horror, an Ebony user speaking out against the party line  but it doesn't mean I'm parting with my SU...
