another Northern hello (Newcastle)

Post by Yassen Roussev » Wed Dec 07, 2011 10:04 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

hi all,

Just a quick mail to introduce myself.

I am based in Newcastle, film photography shooter in my spare time. Mostly landscapes and people. B&W, the occasional colour.

35mm, medium format, polaroid and yes - got that large format bug. Have had a Tachihara 5x4 for about a year now, still only a single lens
135 Schneider. Can really do with something better for close-up portraits, have a Nikorr 210mm but need to get that fitted with a shutter, and
a wista/linhof lensboard. And a wider lens at some point. 10x8 is tempting, but as I am keen to learn some of the historical processes
with the smaller camera, going to hang fire on that for now.

Been quite busy lately so haven't been able to shoot much, but hoping to

Some of my photos are on flickr:

See you on the forum and hopefully one day out there shooting.

Best wishes,

Yassen

Thank you Paul, I see you love your pinhole too. Great long exposure work images on your flickr too, I need to get out more this winter.

That's an interesting photostream.
That film with x-ray damage is worrying.
What speed was it?
Do you have any reason to suspect that the lead bags caused the operator to increase the x-ray power?

Good luck with the large format!

Thanks for you comments Marizu.

The film with the X-ray damage was Trix-400 as far as I can remember.

It is a bit of a mystery still about this x-ray damage to be fair - I requested all my film to be hand checked, so no X-ray,
at the airports, but an ignorant guy deciding to open a box of shot 5x4 film, which was very annoying as you might guess.

The only other x-ray source that could have damaged the film was when I left my bag for storage at King's Cross for a couple
of hours and yes, that film was posted to me initially to me in a bulk canister from the US - potentially it might have got damaged
then - I had not shot any test rolls before travel....
