Hi from Oz

Post by msbc » Fri Oct 31, 2008 5:26 am Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Hi,

I've just joined this forum and would like to introduce myself. I live in Melbourne, Australia but was born in Nottingham. I started photography as a teenager - 35mm colour transparency - and for the last 4 years have been shooting digital (Canon 5D). Pretty much exclusively landscapes.

In October I travelled to Rannoch Moor, Scotland for a weeks photo workshop with Joe Cornish. I had a great time, learnt a lot and got seriously 'bitten' by the large format bug! After seeing 4x5 colour transparencies and Joe's work there is no way I can now be satisfied shooting 35mm :D

So, I'm here to learn all I can with my first goal being to decide on what equipment to buy to get started.

I hope you'll all be patient if/when I ask dumb questions!

Cheers,
Mark Connell

Welcome Mark

You do realise that you have to attend at least one meeting of the Tearoom Appreciation Society before your membership can be ratified?

Welcome Mark,

As much as Jo would like to initiate you into the tearoom appreciation society, I doubt there's anything like as much rain in Melbourne to force you into somewhere whilst it stops and you can go out and take pictures again. :)

We could almost start and Australian branch of the UKLFPG as there's Chong out in NSW Oz...

Welcome Mark.
While rain might not be the issue, methinks that 40 degrees C is just far too hot for comfort, let alone film. I will admit I would prefer a wooden camera to a metal one in those circumstances, so maybe we could deport Ebony-users in order to set up up the Oz version of UKLFPG... :? :?: How do you say UKLFPG in Strine?

I thought deporting/transporting people to Oz stopped many years ago unless you're classing it as a crime to possess an Ebony...?

Haven't you got expert translation services at home now, Charles?

Hello Andrew,
classing it as a crime to possess an Ebony...?
Considering some of the things you read people doing to or with their Ebony's, one wonders...
I'll consult the oracle when she returns from her travels.
Charles
PS sorry, yes, deport is french - wrong neuron.

Responding to the various posts:
1. Prefer coffee over tea - so maybe I can start the Javaroom Appreciation Society - Aus Chapter.
2. I like the idea of starting a LFPGAUS group for social gatherings.
3. All Ebony users are welcome - Joe convinced me I should purchase a 45SU as my first LF camera :-)
4. Deportation didn't stop - we just reversed it - now all famous Aussies get sent to London.
