Black tape for Fidelity dark slides

Post by Collas » Mon Jan 09, 2012 1:53 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Where can one get hold of a suitable, very sticky, single-sided black cloth tape to attach the flaps back onto a Fidelity double dark slide? It appears to be about 1 cm in width.

I've resealed using the original tape, but I'd like to be able to remove all the residue and seal it down properly with some new tape.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Nick

Frost are good for car restoration supplies.
Something like this?
http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-elect ... -tape.html

(I've never used the stuff, so don't know how sticky it is)

I wonder what the Frost tape is impregnated with?

"Use old fashioned insulating tape for the final touch. The black impregnated cloth tape gives that original finish. Bright plastic ends spoil the effect.
25mm wide by 3 metres long."

There was an article in a 2007 edition of the MPP Users' Club publication which quoted the experience someone had repairing film holder hinges, and it states that he uses 'Williams Self-Adhesive Repair Cloth' (WSARC code CPA 380) from Holland in pieces 10x20cm at £2.10 per piece.

The article also suggests 'Polytape' available from Countrywide stores (agricultural suppliers) made by Polychem Norwood (coded MA 02062).

Hope this is some help.

Canford sell something they call 'linen masking tape' but which us old-timers know it the one true camera tape. Unfortunately, it's white, not black...

I use gaffer tape. No, not that horrible cheap glossy stuff but proper gaffer tape. Goggle progaff. Bookbinders tape would work too.

This has come up many times. In all my reserach (and experience) black book binders tape like this: http://www.presco-uk.com/finishing-tape ... .php?ID=30 is usually recomended. I will check the manufacturer of my tape when at work tomorrow, but it is non glossy, very sticky, and matches the original take used on my fidelity holders.

If you want to try the Progaff it can be obtained from www.fancy-tapes.co.uk at £8.00 for 1 inch wide and 60 yards long. It also comes in some unusual colours and designs in addition to black. I have no connection with the company.
