Ilford Ultra Large Format film 2012

Post by Charles Twist » Wed May 09, 2012 4:20 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Just to let you know that Ilford are again producing Ultra Large Format film for 2012. Our own Mike Walker is distributing it - see http://www.largeformatfilm.com/ - to avoid the minimum quantity problem. Closes June 22nd.

My whole plate (WP) shooting has trailed off because neither FP4 Plus nor HP5 Plus are really my cup of tea, though the former can be acceptable to me some of the time. Since late 2006 I've been begging Simon Galley to include Delta 100 among Ilford's annual special order sizes. That he and the other Directors finally decided they would do so this time is, to me, extraordinarily good news. In fact, my response to his announcement post was "Simon, you've made my day/week/month/year!"

Availability of WP Delta 100 will definitely motivate a second renaissance within the WP renaissance at my house. I encourage anyone shooting in that format to order some Delta 100. Especially when printed on Ilfobrom Galerie, it provides results of extraordinary quality.

Many thanks for raising this Charles as I hadn't seen much about it anywhere. I'll need to trust Mike's very attractive price on the half plate as it seems to be almost as cheap as the normal 5x4, whereas it has been scarily expensive in the past. :o

fyi, Matt Wells at agphotographic is also involved in this:-

and is offering additional film and different sizes than Mike is, so it looks as though we're well covered

It would be even better if Ilford/Harman offered DPP in these other sizes.

Andrew, thanks for that. I've got lots of choices on this side of the pond for retailers participating in Ilford's annual special sizes run. For anyone interested, pages 2 through 5 of the attachment lists all 18 worldwide participating dealers.

I have been recommending Ilford Galerie to darkroom users for years, but most of them are reluctant to try a graded paper over a variable contrast paper. I often use VC papers, but Galerie remains Ilford's flagship paper and IMHO is the best silver-gelatin paper currently available.
