WTB: Field Camera

Looking to buy a cheap field camera (under £500), would love a chamonix but anything considered.

No disrespect but I very much doubt if you will find a used Chamonix for anywhere near that price

If you do not mind the additional weight, imo, your best bet would be to buy a monorail and there are a decent amount around and priced under £500

I was at mr cad in West Croydon two days ago, there are quite a few available within your budget - go and see them..............they'll help you etc etc

Finally, I'm fully aware that cad's have a less than 100% favourable opinion with a few on this forum but I've never had anything other than 101% results and overall satisfaction etc etc, during the past ten or so years

None taken, but the last two mkI's did sell for around £400 I think. I want something that I can just chuck in my rucksack so a monorail isn't for me. Will have a look at Mr Cad when I get home tonight.

I admit I don't like cads but he has got a large stock. Always Bargain, If you don't get the camera reduced you may get something else for free. Remember if the camera is not satisfactory you probably won't get your money back - Buyer Beware...

If I were to sell my Chamonix 045N-1 (which I'm not!) £400-£450 would be about right.

I think you are better off holding out for a decent field camera though as I definitely wouldn't want to lug around a heavy monorail... saying that there's always the Technikarden or an Arca Swiss which make great field cameras but tend to be about the £800-£900 mark.

I'd just keep an eye open on the various buy and sell boards as they're like buses... none then suddenly there will be two or three.

I used to buy stuff from Mr Cad as I was always tempted by his closing down offers until I realised he had them two or three times a year

I sent an email to Mr Cad and they didn't know what a Chamonix camera is and they don't currently have any field cameras in stock...

You cant possibly have spoken to Alex then - otherwise you would have mentioned that you did come waway with a grandmother and a bag of other possibly useful (in another life) bits.....

I think you should be able to find a chamonix for that sort of money. There was a nice Toyo on this forum a couple of weeks back which is of the metal folding camera ilk (MPP, Toyo, Wista all have them) for about £300 which would also be an excellent and in some respects better constructed option at the sub £500 price point IMVHO.

Of course he will, they're only £600 new including postage from China (assuming no customs fee when importing)!

When I've seen ones go second hand they seem to go in the £4-500 mark, which seems perfectly reasonable.
