Darkslide storage

Yesterday I laboriously typed out a question and launched it into the ethernet, which then seems to have slipped into a black void of my own incompetence, so I shall try again and be rather more careful with regard to which key I hit last!

I carry 6 dark slides in my backpack along with the camera and assorted paraphernalia, however when out for a day I would like to be able to take around 20 loaded dark slides with me, but leave the balance in my car. This suggests that another container is required that can remain in the car whilst I’m off wandering. So, my question is what do you folk use for this purpose; if anything?
I should add that at this stage I’m not interested in using quickloads even though I imagine that they would lighten the load a little.

A lot of people keep theirs in cheap food cooler bags. I use these for my larger film holders. Proper bags are made by a number of manufacturers, especially in the USA, but are often expensive.

A few years ago I bought four (end of line?) Calumet padded film cases which just about hold 10 5x4 film holders. I have more than I need, so if you want a couple let me know.

Thanks Barry, that makes sense, especially from the temperature control point of view; I doubt cooked film will give very good results. I have a small rigid cold box, 6 pack size, buried in my garage somewhere, I must find it and see if it's suitable. I am interested in the padded case though, maybe you can bring them with you to Seahouses?

I recently found a cheapo plastic file box at Staples which holds six 5x7 holders perfectly, and a flat reallyusefulbox to carry four whole plates. Eight 4x5s go into a boxy 1950s camera case ... and that has a shoulder strap.

Far from perfect ... but cheap.

Hi Dave

I use the light proof bags that darkroom paper comes in to hold the slides I need in my rucksack and then have other batches loaded in bags and keep them in a rigid electric cooler box in the car. I've used plastic containers in the past but find them bulky to carry around.
