Ordering a Maxwell screen

Post by Mike Hester » Sun Dec 20, 2009 8:53 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Hi

I'm going to order a Maxwell screen and have recently received an e mail from Bill regarding methods of payment. I'm just not sure what the best way is to go about this. Has anyone sent credit card details in two separate emails, or made payment by coupon from the Post Office as Bill suggests. Sorry to sound naive but I'm unsure what a payment coupon is?

Regards
Mike

I imagine he means a postal order but AFAIK these don't work for the USA and Americans don't understand £s anyway. There's also a Post Office Money Gram http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/c ... d=96300777 but I think it would be cheaper to get your bank to do an international transfer - although some Americans seem paranoid about giving anyone their bank details to pay into. I'll go for a CC if he'll accept it.

Yep, I've done this ..

It's actually a fairly secure way of dealing with credit card info. I was happy with this anyway..

I have sent money via a moneygram and by international transfer. Moneygram does not have very good rates of exchange and also charges a fee. But I think it is safe and pretty straightforward. I think my bank charges a flat fee for international bank transfer of about £20, but many people are understandably a bit reluctant to give their bank details. I would have thought that credit card is easiest and I would personably be happy to do this splitting the details into more than one email....or by email and phone?

Hope it goes well and you enjoy your screen. I'm sure the hassle will be worth it.

Jenny

As long as you don't mind a long phone call (Bill can talk for ages), just give him a call and give the number over the phone.

Otherwise, doesn't he accept PayPal? That's what I accept for international payments and it only costs me around 3.5% and the exchange rate is good.

That's what I did. Actually, he called me.... at midnight.

Many thanks everyone, I'll go the credit card route rather than phone Bill direct as his reputation for conversation goes before him. :)

Bill supplied me with two completely different email addresses so that I sent him my credit card details this way. I experienced no problems. I will happily repeat the process when I buy a secondhand Hassleblad and install one of his screens in it.
