Another option that seems to fly under most people's radar is the non-folding Shen Hao model. Foto-Arte have them I think, I believe robert white used to but the one I got was said to be their last one.

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. There's plenty for me to think about.

At the moment with the Euro exchange rate almost 1 to 1, it's not a great time to be buying from European suppliers. I'm hoping to be able to get to 'Focus on Imaging' exhibition in February. Do Robert White or any of the other LF suppliers have stands there? It would be good to have the chance to see and handle the cameras before deciding.

There's a nice looking Toyo in the For Sale section here.

It may be a little too far to travel but Robert White are having an event this coming weekend.

Robert White were not at last year's Focus. The best option is to try and get together with someone local from this forum who has a camera you would like to see. Where in the UK are you?

Joanna, thanks, that would be useful. I'm in York.

I had a chance to look at a Wista 45DX recently while staying with friends. It seemed nicely made and very light (even with the 210mm lens that was mounted). They seem expensive for what they are at new prices, though, but it could be a possibility second hand.

The Robert White event is too far to go just for that but there is a possibility that we'll be going to see friends in Dorset next year so I'd be able to fit in a visit to RW's then.

Gavin.

Sorry, yes I've edited my profile so my location's shown now; it wasn't before.

But, then you also stated that you were in York in your first post... Doohh!! Time I got, either my glasses, or perhaps my brain, updated

Could I also recommend you seriously consider a Walker camera? There was a secondhand one for sale on the French Galerie Photo forum for only €800.

There's a wista DX on teamwork second hand for 445 sheets + vat. You'd be able to get a shen hao or tachihara new for less than that though.
