Film holder management

Another newbie question . I was just wondering what people find the best way of identifying the 'status' of their film holders as I think this could get confusing when away on a trip. I suppose it's easy to identify loaded and un-exposed holders by having the white side of the dark slide showing. But what about exposed but not yet unloaded and empty holders? I did see mentioned somewhere that if the dark slide locks are left off then that indicates an empty holder but this seems risky to me as the locks can be knocked easily. I've been thinking about using rubber bands to indicate a loaded holder but I'd welcome your thoughts and recommendations.

my system:

exposed but not yet unloaded - just the same as exposed.
empty holders - write "empty'" on the slide, and/or put them in the sandwich bags upside down (i.e. handles to the bottom). Or just pull the darkslides all the way out, then you can see they are empty.

It doesn't strike me as a big issue. If a holder is empty, and you're away on a trip, simply store it in your normal luggage - i.e. away from your camera bag. If you only ever have loaded holders with your camera then you only need to keep track of exposed/unexposed sheets. Plus it avoids carrying unnecessary weight when you're out shooting.

When I'm at home, loaded holders stay in the fridge and empty ones sit in a drawer with my other photo stuff.

Loaded = elastic band running over dark slides to bottom of holder.

Unloaded = no elastic band.

exposed/ unexposed as per usual.

I find leaving the darkslides 'open' allows too much dust to gather in the holder.
