Schneider lens valuation

Post by linhoftechiv » Tue Mar 30, 2010 7:36 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Hi there, I am hoping to draw upon the knowledgable folk here in order to come to a reasonable valuation of a schneider lens that I'm looking to sell on to a friend. The lens is a linhof select schneider 150mm/5.6 265mm symmar convertible lens and the serial number places it at about 1960 - whilst this is a pretty common lens as seen on many super technika's, I'm finding it hard to find any history of recent sales to give a ballpark figure. Please assume that the condition of the lens is excellent - clean and clear, functioning well.

Many thanks for any help, it's much appreciated

Forget that it's convertible the results split aren't very good so no-one uses them that way.

The lens is worth around £150 at the most to a Linhof owner, you need to take into account alternatives. There's a similar aged 150mm Symmar with a Buy it Now price of £112 from a reputable Ebay seller in the US (who I've bought from in the past & recommend). Take into consideration I paid under £150 for a mint 135mm f5.6 MC Caltar (Symmar) 18 months ago and that's typical of the prices for modern Multi-coated 150mm lenses.

So as your selling to a friend you need set a price that's fair to both of you.

There is also a Nikkor 150mm on sale (on eBay) bidding at around £150. I paid £250 for my mint condition Nikkor 150mm a couple of years ago, and this is one of the modern, high resolution, LF lenses for 5x4.

Sorry for the belated thanks - your help is much appreciated. The friend has delayed and decided not to buy right now, so off to ebay it goes. Perhaps I'll just opt for an auction and see what I can get.

Thanks again
