an alternative to fujichrome astia?
so i was looking for fujichrome astia - thought calumet had it but got mail saying they dont have it any more.
i was looking for very natural colour reproduction, almost what the eye sees or near as damn it, and im looking for an alternative.
i dont really like the super saturated stuff, and ill mostly be shooting fashion or portraits (i know 4 x 5 isnt supoposedly the best format for this, but i dont follow the 'right' way very often.
would welcome some input
cheers

I've not compared it to Astia, but E100G is a nice portrait film. I actually prefered E100GX (the warmtone verson) but I don't think they make it any more.

Pleas post a comparison when you have something to show. It will be very interesting to see any differences.

As far as I'm aware, Astia is only discontinued in Europe so you should continue to be able to buy it from the US (at cheaper prices than it was in the UK too!).. I've got 350 sheets in my freezerFrederick Avery wrote:there was one box left at badger, got it:) ill use that for my special shots. got 3 boxes of e100g on the way too.

Astia 100F standard loads, not-QL's, are still being sold at B&H in 10 sheet boxes for $19.95 U.S. currency. It has been a favorite of many California 4x5 shooters that I know here in the states. An excellent transparency film IMO.
Just looked and found that Samy's Camera here in USA is still selling Astia 100F in 10 sheet boxes for $19.95 US currency also.

Re: an alternative to fujichrome astia?
Hey Tim, sorry to say, but no 20 sheets per box as of yet. At least to speak of anyway. We have been waiting for Fuji to make the transition here in the states overall. In fact, I'm still buying Fuji V-50 in QL's at B&H to this day. Oddly, right after the announcement you could not find hardly any QL's at B&H, but shortly there after they started selling the V-50 QL's again. I'm sure it's just a hold over stock Fuji is supplying until the final move to the 20 sheet boxes is made.

Re: an alternative to fujichrome astia?
Thanks for the post on Badger, Frederick. Was Astia ever sold in 20 sheet per box before the QL demise? Just curious as to out of date issues with various supplies out there. The V-50 QL's I've received from B&H so far have all been late 2011 dates. Not that the dating is a big issue, but always wanting to get the expiration date out as far as possible. So, the question would be, did Badger receive the first boxes of newer standard load 20 sheet boxes of Astia, or is this older stuff and Astia was capable of being bought in that quantity before now. I've lost track of these stats since I began to use all QL's years back now.
