Next official get-together: April16 & 17
Dear All,
It is with great pleasure that I announce the next UKLFPG workshop. 2010 was a difficult year for everyone, but we're back for 2011. This will take place on April the 16th and 17th, although most people usually arrive on the Friday evening. The location will be Saltburn, on the Cleveland coast, which this year is celebrating its 150th birthday.
Because of this highly important event, I'll be helping the town to go all retro. The plan - subject to funding being agreed - is to show the general public something of the origins of photography. So, in July, the town is hoping to have an exhibition of pictures taken with antiquated lenses and cameras. The pictures will be taken on the 16th and 17th by John Brewer and his merry band of alternative processes enthusiasts - wet plate collodion, tin types and all the such. If you own an old lens or camera and want to join in, let me know. And if you've always been curious to see these beasts (the cameras not their owners) in action, you may want to come along for the fun.
Naturally, there's a lot more to the area for those of you who just want pretty scenery (the coast), wild scenery (the moors) and urban or village scenery (Middlesbrough, Whitby, Staithes). The area has something for everyone.
Accommodation is a free for all. I will post some suggestions in due course. Joanna knows about a place in Brotton and will post a link shortly (hopefully).
If you could pm me to say you are coming, I will put a list together. Could you include your mobile phone number to help track you on the day? If numbers justify it, I will find out what can be done to hire a hall where we can natter and be ourselves without apologising for the hulking cameras which follow us around.
I look forward to hearing from you. Regards,
Charles
PS The plan is to have a talk by John B at the start of the exhibition in July followed the next day by a public, hands-on demonstration of the old methods. This will give everyone another chance. I will keep you posted as events get confirmed.

The get-together is definitely happening, it's just the final exhibition I am not sure about yet.

Hi Charles,
I am definitely interested in attending this as I've not been to any of the previous workshops/meetings. Not sure if I'd be a "residential" member as I live fairly close by - near Northallerton - and could travel daily.
Depending on other commitments, I might also be able to offer some assistance with local organisational aspects if required. Please let me know accordingly.
Regards,
Rod.

Yes Charles. Definately interested. Seems such a long time since the North Wales meet.
I shall await further details eagerly.

Hi Charles,
Had a bit of a roller-coaster ride financially of late, definitely up for it if I haven't starved and petrol hasn't gone up a million quid a litre.

Rod & David: I'll send you a PM. Thanks for the offer.
Sean: fuel is still cheaper than ink.
Andrew: It will be great to catch up again. It's only a couple hours' drive to here, so hopefully you can make it.
Look forward to seeing you,
Charles

Hi
I am a new member, and new to LF photography. I would like to join you all for the workshop at Saltburn. If you keep me informed of arrangements, I would be grateful.

Hi Tony,
Welcome to the forum. Let's hope you find it useful. The gatherings can be a good way to get help if you need it and realise that you're not the only one in LF...
It's probably better if you don't put contact details on your posts as spambots can pick up emails. If you've posted on a thread than you can get update emails from the system to keep in touch or people can get hold of you via the private message (PM) option.
All the best,
Andrew

Re: Next official get-together: April16 & 17
Hello All,
I haven't had too many confirmations, so hopefully you're all decided and planning. To help you on your way, here's some accommodation help:
The Rose Garden
31 Leven St
01287 622 947
http://www.therosegarden.co.uk
St Antony's Holiday Apartment
01287 622 413
Lune st
4 bedroom self contained; sleeps 6
Saltburn Victoria Apartments
Diamond st
http://www.saltburn-apartments.co.uk
Diamond Guest House
01287 207 049
Diamond st
http://www.diamondguesthouse.co.uk
Tower Court
self contained apartment
01484 530 990
http://www.tower-court.co.uk
Sea Holly Guest House
Pearl St
01287 207 284
There's a longer list of accommodation here but I can see some of it is out of date. Still, if you're desperate (and Saltburn can get surprisingly busy), it may provide a convenient lead. If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch.
I'm also trying to sort out venues for having a natter. I thought that if would be good to convene somewhere that has food. There's a fab fish & chip place near the pier (heart of the photo action for many) which we can take over given sufficient warning. They serve beer, wine and tea as well. I'd like to book that for Friday 15th evening. Could you drop me a line to say you'll be there so I can make a booking? After dinner, there are enough pubs in town that we'll find one to take over.
I'll drop a line later to sort out Saturday night.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Charles
