Hello from the Hampshire/Surrey border
Hello from the Hampshire/Surrey border
I live in Farnborough, Hampshire and I am a returning user of 4x5 cameras, after learning how to use one during a couple of months working as a gopher in a London studio some 24 years ago before going to university. I have been using an Ebony RSW45 for about 3 years before upgrading last November to an Ebony 45SU (after a long, but worthwhile wait!) and enjoy hiking my camera around (no car) to shoot whatever catches my eye, but mainly landscape/nature. I have not had a darkroom since moving to Farnborough 5 years ago, so I have been struggling with scanning and photoshop instead - I much prefer the darkroom for B&W and watching the print emerge before your eyes, but can see the advantages of the digital stream for colour - but it's not the same! I love what I've seen so far of members photos, and hope to post some of mine when I get time to set up a website...

Welcome to the crowd, Henry.
There's quite a few on both sides of digital and wet printing here so feel free to ask away and somebody should chip in...
And another one joins the unofficial Ebony owner's club
There's a reasonable sized contingent of us on here.

As a mechanical engineer, I'd tend to agree with you - but, I've got to try to carry the thing and a Sinar P2 and solid tripod aren't 'compact and bijou!' (even moreso as I'm not a built like a racing snake / mountain goat like some people...
