hello
I would like to know if long focal lens for graflex are good or not (compared to MC symmar-S 150F5.6)
lenses like wolensak 15in F5.6 can be found for not a lot of monney on Ebay with the flange for my 5x4 graflex. The graflex can't be used with "normal" lenes with focal length over 210mm and I would like to use a 12in to 16in focal length lens.
What lens can you recommend me. I would like a lens with a quality comparable to modern lenses.

There's a lot more on the American forum - they regularly use 127mm Ektars and 150mm Schneider Xenars (a modern lens), but that is very similar in focal length to what you are already using.
You know that you can use an 'extender' board, to add a few extra centimeters, to focus a lens in front of the lensboard. That might be an alternative.

My 4x5 is a Crown Graphic.
I can focus a 12" lens (305mm) down to about 3m or so, not close enough for tight portraits. Anything longer is impossible. Also, even at that size the weight of the lens at full extension starts to have quite an impact on the camera rigidity. forget about using a modern 300mm f5.6 !
The alternative is telephoto designs. I was lucky enough to pick a Voigtlander Telomar 480mm some time ago. It sits nicely on the Crown (well balanced, not front heavy) and allow good portrait distances, for head and shoulder. It is a rather low contrast lens, but I just happend to really like that so...
There are other Telephoto that were more or less designed for the press cameras with short belows...
Heres the Telomar on the crown, in portrait orientation.. Make sure you get a good tripod!
