Went out last Sunday evening to the Embankment at Bedford to take a couple of shots of the interesting bridges. Here are two for you to have a look at. It really is a very pleasent part of Bedford for a strole on a nice day.

Nigel, if you post to Flickr, you need to right-click on the posted image to copy the address of the image to post here. The addresses you posted were not images but links to the pages that held the images. If that makes sense ?

Here are the details then;
The Tulippy one - Iron Suspension Bridge over the river Great Ouse in Bedford. (Ebony RSW 150mm with tilt, 1/2 sec @ f32 plus inverted 0.6ND Grad).
The funny bridge one - Butterfly Bridge over the river Great Ouse in Bedford. (Ebony RSW 150mm, 1/4 sec @ f32 plus 0.6ND Grad).

Both on OLD Velvia 50.

These are both nice enough pictures but I would like to know why they appear so flat and lacking in contrast. Are the trannies like this or is than something that has crept in at the scanning stage ?

I think I get what you mean about flat lighting but they dont lack contrast!

Hi Nigel,

I can see what Joanna means, I just saved the bridge image and loaded into CS3 - the bulk of the histogram is over on the left side, which is why the image appears a little dark. I just tried a quick curve adjustment layer and it comes up nicely, although needs a little masking to hold back the highlights.

I guess in the scan holding the highlights on the bridge has pushed the rest of the image down - you could apply the adjustment in the scanner software if you wished, although TBH I find it easier to just set the upper and lower levels and then do the main adjustments in photoshop.

Haven't been through Bedford for quite a while,
