Importing a case of Astia 100F

Post by Joanna Carter » Fri Jun 05, 2009 5:13 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Following on from another thread, would anyone who thinks they could use some Astia 100F QL, if we were to import it from Badger Graphic, please reply here with how many boxes you think you could afford at around £60-£70 per box.

I have just worked out the price per box, based on a carriage charge of $108 for the case, including duty at 6.5% and VAT at 15%, converted at $1.61/£1, it should come out at only £55.79 per box.

If this is correct, this is some £7.50 cheaper than Robert White's price for a single box of Fuji Quickload transparency film, and only around £1 per box more than their reduced price for two boxes.

Will someone please check my figures?

Take the price of $66.95 per box

Multiply by 20 = $1339.00

Add duty on goods at 6.5% = $1426.04

Add carriage of $108.00 = $1534.04

Add VAT on goods and carriage at 15% = $1764.15

Convert to GBP at $1.61/£1 = £1095.74

Add Post Office duty collection charge (say £20) = £1115.74

Divide by 20 = £55.79 per box.

Hi Joanna

You can put me down for three boxes of QL Astia. Could we request a case dated to last a couple of years?

Looks like more food will be displaced by film. What a great way of dieting: the Photographer's Diet!

Incidentally earlier this week a new peer was sworn in at the House of Lords. I noticed his novel title, and so refined too:

Lord Stone cum Ebony

The Lords' first Ebonite!

A couple of suggestions:

1) If you could get it direct from Japan it might be cheaper.

2) You could try approaching 7dayshop.co.uk as they obviously have a way to buy other Fuji films at good prices. If you committed to a case they might just be interested as there would be little risk.

At the moment, Japan Exposures is quoting $128.00 per box, compared to Badger Graphic at $66.95. Even if they were to give a discount for a case, I can't see them giving almost 50%

Going through any UK supplier would mean allowing for them to make a profit on the transaction. Seeing that Fuji UK no longer distributes Astia 100F in the UK, that would mean that they would have to go to either the US or Japan to get supplies.

The only reason 7DayShop seem cheap is because they exploit the fact that VAT is not payable on imports of less than £18, thus most things on their site are priced under that level. Since one box of QL is way over £18, I can't see any advantage, especially as they would also have to pay shipping, import duty and VAT, just as if they were in the UK.

I have just bought three boxes of ten sheets of Astia 100F 5x4" film from MACO in Germany. Whilst they do not sell it in QL format, a box of 10 5x4 sheets costs €23.13. The cost for importing the three boxes was €69.32 plus €11 postage & €13.17 German VAT (at their current rate of 19%) making a total cost €82.49. When I bought this, this worked out as around £75 for the 30 sheets of film or £2.50 per sheet.

The direct MACO link is here:

The expiry date of the film batch is May 2011.
