Short dated Velvia 50 4x5

I just ordered some March 09 dated Velvia 50 4x5 sheets at £5.75 for a box of 10, which seems a reasonable price.
The order went through - hopefully they have the film to complete the order!!!!

...or is someone going to tell me that it's a terrible idea to buy short dated Velvia 50????

I have bought some of the March 09 sheets and used it - its fine. It was hellishly cheap if you bought 10 boxes.... pop in the freezer and good almost indefinitely.

That's put my mind at rest.I was half expecting a post to tell me that Velvia 50 deterirates rapidly after it's use by date!!

Fujilab have just emailed back and said I got the last three boxes of the March 09, but I presume they still have the June 09 at around £3 a box more - still a good price.

In the meantime, this afternoon I've just tried my first four sheet film shots (previously I've only used Quickload). Loaded them last night, and the first one I tried taking a shot with, I couldn't get the dark slide back in afterwards. Gave up in the end and when I took the film holder off I found the sheet of film loose inside the bellows!!! The other three sheets worked fine though, so I presume I must have missed the film groove when loading it?

Most likely and the commonest error in my experience. So much so that I give the holder a bit of a tap and shake and then slide up the septum to see whether the film falls out.... all in the dark of course

Second commonest error being that the film stays up the groove from the base - doesnt settle back down to the right spot so the result is a missing portion of the picture. The 'tap' referred to above has removed those errors also.

I think the majority of all the velvia I've ever shot has been out of date up to the tune of a few years, its fine. My current stock of 120 is dated 2007. In fact I recently shot a couple of rolls of 2001 dated provia, and that looked absolutley fine too.
