Large format printing

Post by michaelfinch » Mon Feb 01, 2010 2:28 pm Etc/GMT-1+01:00

Does anyone out there use or have experience of an Epson 7600? I've been asked to produce an image (not a photo) approx 3 metres long and as far as I'm aware the 7600 is limited to about 2 metres even when using a 30 metre roll. Is there a work-around to go beyond 3m? More in hope than expectation.....................

Hi Micheal, I have a 7600 though it is down at present, needs a service. I have never had any problems with printing long runs when doing a mosaic of prints as it were. I don't remember doing anything in particular.
My friend is the previous owner, I shall have a chat with him this evening and see if he remembers any oddities.
I am sure I simply put the document size in the roll paper window. I am having problems remembering off-hand as the printer was in storage for a few months and when I finally got it set up again it wanted a service so I haven't use dit for several months.

As I understood it ( although I have no personal experience ), the limit on the length of print from these printers is 90", and this is a driver based limit. I believe if using a RIP this limit may not apply. Not very helpful...

Thanks guys. A RIP will do the job but I'm not about to invest that amount of money for a one-off job! What I've been asked to do is to print out a pattern (mono) for a ceramics maker to mark out tile placings on a wall. Epson et al agree that the limit is 90 inches. I've been doing a bit of research and there may be a way of over-riding the Epson driver via Adobe Illustrator CS - so when I get the chance I'm going to borrow a laptop with it installed and use OSX. My print server is an ancient PowerBook running OS9 (it ain't broke so I won't fix it). Meanwhile Gari, if you pick up any useful hints I'd be grateful.
